Chips And Snacks Manufacturers

125834208_xlAre you considering taking your cleaning game to the next level? If you are one of the many chips and snacks manufacturers that is still dismantling all of your equipment to clean it, then it might just be time for an intervention, but we’ll get to that later. The first thing you need to understand is that the chip industry is ceaseless, but you probably already know that. Chips and cookies are literally one of the most demanded foods in the United States as well as the rest of the world, and if you stop for too long to clean, there might actually be a chip shortage in your area. Let that sink in for a moment. That is the most responsibility you have ever held in your life, and the last thing you want to do is mess it up. Of course there are several other ways for you to disappoint your customers, other than allowing the lines to stop for a few moments.

The Dangers of Contamination

To say that there is a slight danger of contamination on any production line would be a gross understatement. While chips are a bit more resilient than most foods, you still need to make sure that they are capable of making it from your factory to the bag without any contamination.

What Causes Contamination?

Contamination can be caused by any number of problems. For example it could be debris on the line, it could be seat from an employee, or it could be malicious; you never know where it is going to come from. For this reason it is strongly recommended that you stop at some point during the work day so as to allow the work area to be cleaned. There are several different parts involved which of course include:

  • Ovens
  • Racks
  • Socking Reservoirs
  • Conveyor Belt
  • Food Molds
  • Metal Strips
  • Food Packaging

These are just a few good examples of the systems in your plant and there is a good chance that you are more familiar with them than we are. What you do know for certain is that dismantling them has their consequences, yet you have to make sure that they are all properly cleaned. This creates an obvious problem but it is, however, where we get into the science of the pressure washer.

The Science of the Pressure Washer

The application of the pressure washer has always been pretty simple. All you need to do, of course, is aim and shoot, and the pressure exerted by the machine will easily cut through any dust, dirt, or grime that happens to be present. The problem however is that cold water does not get rid of the bacteria, and that is the last thing you want sneaking into your product. Remember, you’re creating a happy snack food, not a one way ticket to the emergency room and a re-branding meeting for later in the week. Instead, you might want to look into a pressure washer that is capable of releasing hot water as well as cold.

With a hot pressure washer you will not only be able to cut through the dirt and grime, but you will also be able to get rid of invisible bacteria before it plagues your chips and eventually makes your customers sick. The best part is that you will not have to worry about dismantling any of the assembly. Instead, you will be able to spray down your machinery without much interaction other than clearing the product and making sure your employees are out of the way. Once this is done, you will find that you can spray and reach just about any nook and cranny.

The last point we will make is a word of warning: don’t use gas powered pressure washers in your factory. There are many benefits to using gas as you probably know, and they can definitely help in some applications, but not in a chip/snack factory. Not only are they loud, they let off emissions and fumes into the air, creating the very problem that you were trying to eliminate in the first place. You can undoubtedly see how that might hinder your progress and force you to start all over again. In addition to that, it was actually made illegal due to USDA regulations.

Start looking into various models of pressure washers today. This is one purchase you will not regret, and you will not believe the amount of money that it can actually save you.
