Water Damage Restoration

When water damage occurs, whether it be in the home, in the car, or at the office, you're faced with a very real, dangerous and potentially expensive problem. Water damage often occurs as a result of neglect (say, refusing to fix that leak in the roof), and tends to blow up to be a huge problem almost overnight. When the carpet is damaged due to sitting water, it becomes a breeding ground for mold, mildew and other bacterias that can cause extreme health issues (among other things). If you catch the water damage early on, however, carpet can sometimes be salvaged if you act fast and utilize resources well known for being effective in fixing water damage. What are these resources, though, and how might you use them?

Heated Carpet Extractors

What is a carpet extractor? And why does it need to be heated? Carpet extractors are, without a doubt, the most commonly used type of carpet cleaning equipment – one that works by spraying water into the carpet and then vacuuming (extracting) the dirt up along with the water... leaving the spot clean, dry and without stain or blemish. Hot water will be the best way to get your soiled carpets looking brand new again. If your carpets are dirty, covered in grime or mud, a hot water extractor will work wonders to remove dirt and deposits, breaking up dirt and grease easily with it's conventional carpet cleaning methods.

While the water pressure will work to loosen bacteria fibers, it'll do little to actually kill or eliminate any remaining bacteria. And, as you know, mold bacteria can exist and grow rapidly even if you don't see it! The high temperatures that are emitted with a hot water extractor are completely necessary in order to kill any bacteria that is living and growing in your carpet. Mold grows rapidly, so any and every effort to kill every spore should be made when your purpose is water damage restoration. To consider approaching the job without the use of the hottest water possible is a terrible mistake that will prove to be fruitless in your mold killing efforts. Daimer heated carpet extractors are the most powerful extractors in the industry, and can remove, sanitize, and deodorize even the toughest in stains and bacterias, including tough moldy spots that are believed to be impossible to remove.

Steam Cleaners

Round two in treating your water damage happens after the moisture extraction with a heated carpet extractor. Your second punch lies in the commercial grade carpet steam cleaner, when you use more hot water to push through any remaining bacteria. Our steam cleaners are well known around the globe and have proven to be essential for use commercially and industrially, but also in the home. Contrary to popular belief, steam cleaners aren't only for professional use – but when you buy the right one for your needs, they can be easy for even the most novice cleaners wishing to sanitize a smaller space (even after water damage).

These systems, when put to use in the home, will sanitize, disinfect, and deodorize all in one use – three vey important steps for treating water damage in one. Without a steam cleaner, you'll be sanitizing with a chemical cleaner, disinfecting with a separate cleaner that may or may not be harmful on the material being cleaned, and then you'll just be replacing the odor (likely temporarily) with an odor eater. Our steam cleaners, on the other hand, generate dry vapor with a low moisture content. Additionally, most overlook the use of heat as an effective cleaning agent – our steam cleaners do not. Using heat as a powerful cleaning method, we eliminate or reduce the need for detergents, making the entire process safer and more environmentally friendly.

Let it Dry!

Don't let the same mistake fester twice: make sure the area dries! Even if your water damaged area has been thoroughly cleaned and restored to its original condition, you're not in the clear until the area is 100 percent dry. Make sure you do your carpet extracting and steam cleaning at a time when you know you'll be able to steer clear of the area for at least several hours. Our commercial cleaners put out less water, and as a result they dry much faster. However, when dealing with water damage, it never hurts to err on the side of caution and give yourself a little longer to eliminate the risk of mold or mildew.

Know When to Get Rid of It

At the end of the day, if there's a machine than can restore your home or facility to how it was before water damage, you'll find it at Daimer. However, if it cannot be done with even the best equipment in the industry (like we have at Daimer), don't compromise the health of your family or your coworkers to make it work. Mold can be devastating to your health and must be taken seriously!

Water damage is incredibly unfortunate and can be an expensive problem if not handled correctly. Take care of the problem as quickly and as thoroughly as you can, using the best of the best in Daimer equipment, and there's a great chance your carpet will be restored to its former condition.
