Why You Need To Check Your Floor Before You Use The Best Hard Surface Steam Cleaner

Hard Surface CleanerWhen it comes to cleaning your hard wood floor, your first instinct, obviously, will be to use commercial steam floor cleaners, which isn’t a terrible idea. Before you go that route however, there are several other things that you can do, the most obvious of which is to make sure that your floor is clean in the first place. When you spill something on the floor, so long as it is solid, you can simply sweep it up and place it in the trash can. If you spill a liquid, you can wipe it up with a dry rag. The idea is to never allow your floor to get to the point that it needs to be fully cleaned, especially considering that spot cleaning should be more than enough.

With that in mind, you must understand that at some point your floor is going to be beyond the simple spot cleaning, and you’re going to need to take it a step further. Good commercial steam floor cleaners are definitely an option, as you probably know, and with that being the case, there are a few things that you will need to do for your floor before you can actually use one. Before we get into that, however, let’s discuss some of the typical problems with a wood floor, and what you can do to correct them.

Wood floors are Porous

If we’re not talking about a laminate floor here, then yes, your floor is extremely porous, and with that being the case, you actually have quite a bit to worry about. Water is definitely your hard wood floor’s greatest nemesis, and if too much spills on it, then the wood will begin to absorb it. As that happens, it will begin to expand, eventually causing the boards to buckle. This is how a nice hard wood floor ends up nearly destroyed with planks sticking up or simply bubbling up. When you consider just how much it can cost to install a hard wood floor, you will probably come to the realization that you don’t want to lose it in this manner.

The best thing you can do for your floor, obviously is seal it using a top coat, and in doing so you will not only protect it, but also add a considerable amount of character, which is definitely going to be helpful in the days to come. After all, you want a floor that you can be proud of, and one that commercial steam floor cleaners will not harm. This is a bit of a tall order, but with the right sealant, you can definitely keep it clean, and you can be quite happy with your flooring.

In the Event Of

If you have moved into a home and you did not install the hard wood floors yourself, it can be difficult to determine whether or not it is actually sealed. Okay, so there’s a helpful hint: don’t give your floor a trial by fire. In other words, don’t run the best hard surface steam cleaner over it and hope for the best. While this might sound fun, it’s definitely not productive, and it will only cause damage in the end. That being said, the best thing you can do, is check to see whether or not the floor is sealed before you get started.

So how do you tell if it’s sealed or not? It’s probably not going to tell you, or is it? The answer is absolutely yes, your floor will easily tell you whether or not it is sealed! Okay, so how do you go about doing it? The first thing that you need to do, is get a small glass of water, tap water from your sink will do just fine. What you want to do is spill a drop onto your floor, and see what happens next.

What did the water do? Did it sit on the floor and bead up? If so, then yes, your floors are most probably sealed. If, on the other hand, the water disappeared into the floor, then no, your floor is not sealed, at least in that area, and it would be a bad idea to sue commercial steam floor cleaners until you stain or seal that floor either by yourself or with the help of a professional – totally up to you.

Remember that staining and sealing can be uneven. In other words, you might find yourself with a floor that has stain missing in spots, and you will want to give it a once over to determine if any such spots exist in your home. This is something you will need detect by looking closely, and you can give your floor any touch ups it needs. No matter what, the best hard surface steam cleaner is out there waiting for you, so long as your floor can handle it.
